This trial is investigation the use of the patient's own stem cells in the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma. The trial is being conducted by the Haematology Department of Launceston General Hospital in Tasmania. This ongoing trial commenced in July 2007 and expects to recruit 40 patients. Participants will receive G-CSF injection five days prior to harvesting peripheral blood stem cells via apheresis. The peripheral blood stem cells will be divided into two samples. The first sample will be administered to the patient once they have received a dose of ablative chemotherapy. The second sample will be administered three months later, after another dose of ablative chemotherapy. Participants will be monitored for complications and assessed for changes in their clinical condition.
