This trial conducted at Royan Institute in Teheran investigated the effects of injecting the patient's own bone marrow stem cells into the knee joints of 40 patients with severe osteoarthritis. The proposed primary outcome measure was to assess any difference in the subjects' functional abilities and pain score at two different time points (two weeks and three months after the injection of stem cells). The study was conducted between September 2010 and November 2012.
