This study is being conducted by the University of Sao Paulo to investigate stem cells from bone marrow can improve vision in patients suffering ischaemic retinopathy. Mesenchymal stem cells will be collected from the patient’s own bone marrow and injected directly into the eye. Changes in the thickness of the retina as well as improvements in vision will be measured. The trial commenced in September 2011 and is seeking to enrol 30 patients.
