This trial seeks to investigate the effect of donated umbilical cord blood stem cell in the treatment of cerebral palsy. Participants were divided into a treatment group that received an infusion of cord blood and rehabilitation, and a control group that also received rehabilitation and an injection but no cord blood. Patients, caregivers and researchers did not know what group they were in. Both groups were assessed for improvements in neurological function such as the Gross Motor Performance Measure, the Korean Bayley Scale of Infant Development, visual perception, muscle strength and brain glucose utilisation. The study recruited 37 patients with cerebral palsy (aged between 6 months and 20 years) and was conducted at the CHA University Medical Centre in the Republic of Korea.
