This trial is being conducted at Wenzhou Medical College and seeks to investigate the role of the patient’s own stem cells in the treatment of liver cirrhosis. Participants will be divided into two groups. The treatment group will receive an infusion of their own bone marrow stem cells directly into the liver at the time of surgery, or a control group that will only have surgery to treat their cirrhosis. The bone marrow stem cells will be harvested from the participants at the beginning of the surgery. Participants will be monitored at regular intervals over an initial two year period and assessed for complications and improvements in liver function. The trial is expected to enrol 50 subjects between June 2010 and June 2014.
