This trial aims to investigate the use of stem cells from the patient's bone marrow in treatment of liver cancer. The trial is being sponsored by the Fundación Pública Andaluza Progreso y Salud and is being conducted at four University hospitals across Spain. They proposes to recruit 65 patients between March 2011 and March 2014. Participants will be randomly divided into either a control group or a experimental group. The control group will receive the standard of care which involves surgical resection of those segments of the liver affected by the cancer. The experimental group will have stem cells isolated from their bone marrow which will be infused into the remaining segments during the standard resection surgery. All participants will be monitored for complications following the transfusion and changes in clinical condition, including liver function and tumour recurrence.
