Bookings & Conditions - Flow Cytometry Facility

FACS Aria III sorter - PC2 Facility

Availability: The sorter is available during the following hours (excluding University holidays):
Monday 10am-5pm; Tuesday 10am-7pm; Wednesday 10am-5pm; Thursday 10am-7pm and Friday 10am-4pm.

Conditions of use:

All samples must be filtered through 35-40um mesh filters immediately before sorting to help prevent blockages. Researchers will be charged for the time taken to clear blockages, and subject to subsequent bookings, the availability of your sorting time may be reduced. For advice on how to prepare clump-prone cells, please contact the manager.



Booking / cancelation policy:
Bookings must state the nozzle size or the type of cells to be sorted (if unsure of the appropriate nozzle size).
The sorter can be used for analysis only but will incur the full sorting fee to cover flow facility staff costs.
Please indicate if you are sorting primary human tissue or other PC2 classified cells. Yeast will not be accepted for sorting.

Bookings via the online booking system must be made at least 24 hours in advance of required service. For bookings with less than 24 hours notice, please contact the manager to check availability.

Users can cancel their bookings via the online booking system up to 48 hours before their sort.

Cancelations with between 24-48 hours notice will be charged 50% of the booked time, minimum of 1 hour. Cancelations with less than 24 hours notice, and no-shows will be charged in full.

Minimum booking is 1 hour after which users will be charged in 30-minute increments. Users will be charged based on the time booked or time used, whichever is longer. The manager reserves the right to alter online bookings post-sort to reflect the time used (if longer than that booked).

The Facility manager reserves the right to change booking times dependent on the machine’s availability, but will endeavour to give researchers as much notice as possible.

Beckman Coulter CyAn ADP analyser and HyperCyt - PC2 Facility

The MBC CyAn analyser is available for researchers to DIY 24 hours per day including weekends following training and reaching a high level of competence.

For training and assisted usage please book. Minimum booking is 30 minutes, followed by 15 minute increments thereafter. Bookings are essential.

For clumping cells due to a lot of cell damage/ death, add up to 20-100ug/ml DNAse to your sample prep. For generally sticky cells, add 1-2mM (final) EDTA to your suspension buffer. Click here for more information.

BD Fortessa 4-Laser Analyser

The BD Fortessa 4-laser analyser with HTS is available for researchers to DIY 24 hours per day including weekends following training and reaching a high level of competence.

For training and assisted usage contact mbc-flowlab@unimelb.edu.au prior to booking via ARIN. For unassisted use, minimum booking is 30 minutes, followed by 15 minute increments thereafter. Bookings are essential.

UNASSISTED - University of Melbourne & Florey  $61 per hour
ASSISTED -  University of Melbourne & Florey $117 per hour*
TRAINING - University of Melbourne & Florey $177 per hour*
* Please contact staff prior to booking assisted and training runs on the Fortessa analyser to arrange a suitable time.
