Barbara Power

As Business Manager, Barbara is the most senior administrator in Stem Cells Australia (SCA) and provides administrative leadership across the eight nodes of the SCA initiative. She oversees the operations of the Stem Cells Australia initiative. The Business Manager is responsible for: financial management, including the management of the centre’s budget, tender preparation, grant and contract management and compliance; program management, including program reporting as specified in the ARC Funding Agreement; support to the chair in Stem Cells Australia and the relevant SCA committees. She also provides strategic advice and senior executive support to Professor Pera, the governance committee, the scientific leadership group and the scientific advisory committee.

Barbara has extensive management, financial and operational experience across government, higher education and research, public company and the private sector. Barbara’s strengths include; developing and implementing strategic and business plans; initiative-driven problem solving and leadership skills, facilitating successful collaborations between organisations and companies and the preparation of data packages for commercialisation.

Barbara was previously co-founder and Director of AntibOZ Pty Ltd, providing scientific services through consulting, contract R&D and organisation of the International AntibOZ conferences. Previously held positions include; Business Development Officer at CRC for Mental Health; Head of Recombinant Technologies at Patrys Ltd (Human Antibodies); and Antibody Engineering Project Leader at CSIRO Molecular and Health Technologies. Barbara has over 20 years experience in the recombinant technology field, with publications on antibody and alternative protein scaffolds for the display of a variety of binding specificities. Her work has helped to develop multimeric antibodies as in vivo imaging reagents. Barbara has also published manuscripts on ribosome display and cell-free protein synthesis utilising microfluidics technologies. Barbara has over 40 publications, patents and book chapters.

Barbara’s qualifications include; Master of Education (Management)-current student; Master of Science (Immunology),  Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; New Zealand Certificate in Science (Biology); Certificate in Small Business Management.
