Muscle Regeneration Prof. Christophe Marcelle
PhD Student at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI)
Recipient of scholarship
I obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne in 2012. I then completed my Honours degree at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute looking at epigenetic regulation during lung development. I decided to change my research focus into skeletal muscle and I joined Prof Christophe Marcelle’s laboratory at ARMI to do a PhD. My PhD project is aiming to develop a systemic delivery strategy for the treatment of muscular dystrophies. Delivery of treatments remains the biggest hurdle in the clinic and we hope to provide a novel approach to tackle this problem. The second aim of my PhD is to elucidate the role of FGFR-4 in skeletal muscle, which remains obscure to date, despite its high and specific expression in muscle stem cells.
