Pamela has undertaken her PhD at the University of Melbourne, under the supervision of Professor Melissa Little, studying recent concepts in normal kidney organogenesis, repair, and regeneration. Her PhD thesis investigates whether kidney derived MSCs represent a preferable population to functionally contribute to collecting duct epithelium (CD) and the directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells towards ureteric bud (UB) epithelium generating mini-kidneys in a dish from stem cells. The establishment of the generation of UB epithelium provides a valuable platform to investigate the capacity of this epithelium to respond to a metanephric mesenchyme and will ultimately facilitate three-dimensional bio-printing allowing the recreation of larger kidney structures.
