Reprogramming and Epigenetics Professor Jose Polo
PhD student at Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology and Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute
Recipient of scholarship
Xiaodong (Ethan) Liu is a final year PhD student in Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology and Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute at Monash University studying under the supervision of Prof Jose Polo and A/Prof Andrew Laslett. His research is focused on dissecting the reprogramming pathways in human fibroblasts. This research is designed to understand more basic mechanisms of reprogramming in human somatic cells into naïve induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, as this would help improving the quality of iPS cells for potential clinical applications. He completed his Bachelor of Science advanced with Honours degree in Biochemistry and Molecular biology at Monash University in 2011. He is currently supported by a Faculty of Medicine International Postgraduate Scholarship and a Monash Graduate Scholarship.
