Postdoctoral position at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute:
Adult Heart Stem Cells and Cardiac Regenerative Medicine
Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, Darlinghurst, Sydney, and the University of New South Wales, Kensington, Sydney, Australia
The discovery of stem and progenitor cells in the adult heart has revolutionized the field of cardiac regenerative medicine. Heart failure is reaching epidemic proportions and this trend will continue in the developing world. Donor hearts are scarce and new therapies are desperately needed. The adult stem cell group at VCCRI focuses on the biology of a population of stem and progenitor cells present in the adult mouse heart that are multipotent for a range of mesodermal lineages and have the ability to self-renew. We are studying the molecular regulation of their stem cell status and how they might participate in heart repair after injury.
We are seeking on enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow who want to forge a career in stem cell biology. The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI), Sydney, Australia, is an independent research organisation committed to excellence in basic and translational biomedical research that is affiliated with the University of New South Wales (UNSW). It is a member of a world-class medical research precinct that includes the Garvan Institute for Medical Research and the St. Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research.
The fellow will join a group taking a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to understanding cardiac stem cell biology. The project likely involves exploring the molecular basis and chromatin landscape of stem cell transitions, and a detailed analysis of the lineage fate of cardiac stem cells in normal and diseased hearts using Cre-Lox technology.
