Call for Grant Applications: Disease Teams

Stem Cells Australia is seeking applications for targeted disease teams

Stem Cells Australia (SCA) invites Australian researchers to submit proposals for targeted disease teams to translate stem cell research towards a specific clinical need. These will be considered for funding from SCA's new MRFF Accelerated Research - Stem Cells grant.

In July 2018, SCA secured $3 million from the MRFF Accelerated Research - Stem Cells program to pilot the use of targeted disease teams to translate stem cell research towards a specific clinical need. This is the funding model SCA proposes to use in a future application for large scale support through the forthcoming MRFF Frontier Health & Medical Research Program.

Applications are now open for disease teams seeking support for translational research using stem cells. It is anticipated that two teams will be supported with up to $637,500 each: teams are encouraged to leverage this with other funding sources. Funding will start in July 2019 and projects must be concluded and funds spent by June 2021, but can be shorter that 24 months.

Eligibility: The Disease Team Leader must have an appointment at one of the 14 partner organisations in Stem Cells Australia. Other participants in the disease team may come from Stem Cells Australia partner organisations or from other organisations.

Timeline: Prospective applicants must register their intent to apply by Fri 21 Dec 2018. Full applications are due by Fri 15 Feb 2019. Shortlisted applicants are required to present their proposal to the assessment panel at the SCA Retreat in Melbourne on Thurs 21 March 2019.
