Ana Rita Leitoguinho is a PhD student from Portugal working at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. Rita has done her Bachelor in Evolutionary and Developmental Biology in Lisbon, Portugal and a Masters in Developmental Biology in collaboration with the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, she worked as a research assistant in cardiac gene editing research before embarking on a journey to Australia almost 3 years ago. She now studies blood cell development using stem cells. Rita is interested in learning more about genes responsible for childhood leukemias and how to prevent expansion of these malignant blood cells.
